Norwalk Mother Of 4 Refuses Deportation

She has taken sanctuary in a church.

NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk mother of four U.S. born children is refusing deportation Thursday and is seeking asylum in a church.

Nury Chavarria's former attorney told NBC Connecticut she is seeking refuge in a local church and he will continue to represent her Immigration and Customs portion of her case.

Nury Chavarria would leave behind her four children who range in age from 21 to 9-years-old if she were deported. Her oldest Elvin Martinez, 21, has cerebral palsy, according to the Hour.

U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy urged Immigration and Customs Enforcement to use discretion in the case and delay the deportation.

“I'm heartbroken for the Chavarria family,” Murphy said. “Nury is a hard-worker and the sole caretaker of her four U.S. citizen children. She’s not who we should be focusing our limited law enforcement time and effort on deporting. Trump's backwards immigration policies make us less safe. We're better than this.”
