Norwalk Oyster Festival Announces Band Headliners

Three well-known musical acts will headline the festival.

This year’s Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival will feature three well-known musical headliners.

John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band will play on Friday September 11.

Dennis DeYoung: The Music of Styx will play on Sept. 12 and Smash Mouth will play on Sept. 13.

We have another year of great national musical acts lined up,” said Oyster Festival Chairman Mike Reilly. “Dennis DeYoung, founding member of STYX, who wrote seven of their eight Top Ten hits including “Lady,” “Come Sail Away.” Smash Mouth with their big hits such as “All-Star,” Walkin’ on the Sun,” and “I’m a Believer.” Plus, John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band that achieved international success with the soundtrack to the movie “Eddie & The Cruisers” as well as songs in the soundtracks of “Jersey Girl” and “There’s Something About Mary”.

All the above acts will take place on the Main Stage. In addition, dozens of local and regional musicians as well as those competing in the Hour’s “Breaking The Band,” will perform over the course of the weekend on The Hour/Heineken stage.

Returning after their popular debut last year will be the Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show, aerial stunt artists that perform motorcycle high wire acts and other daredevil stunts (www.nervelessnocks.com). This year they will be adding sway poles to their act, stunts on skyscrapingly high poles, free of wires or other safety means. Past attractions returning include the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show (www.lumberjackent.com), a Craft Beer tent with more than 25 beers, an expanded food court, the largest ever Arts & Crafts Pavilion with more than 100 artisans and crafters, the oyster slurping contest, and much more.

The Norwalk Seaport Association was founded in 1978 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, education and public awareness of Norwalk’s maritime environment and heritage. The Seaport Association and its volunteers are solely responsible for organizing and financing the Oyster Festival. In addition to the Oyster Festival, the Norwalk Seaport Association owns Sheffield Lighthouse and its volunteers maintain the lighthouse and grounds as a museum and nature preserve. The organization also offers harbor cruises, special events, maritime education programs and habitat restoration projects with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
