Norwalk Police To Increase DUI Patrols Over Memorial Weekend

Police remind residents to stay safe and to "drive sober" over the holiday weekend.

NORWALK, CT — With Memorial Day weekend almost here, police are reminding residents to stay safe and be smart as they celebrate the "unofficial start" of summer.

"We encourage the community to enjoy the long weekend and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country," Lieutenant Terrence Blake said in a release. "We also want to remind everyone to please drive sober."

According to police, 10,497 people died in drunk driving crashes in 2016, or one every 50 minutes. Approximately 290,000 were also injured in drunk driving crashes, police said.

"We will have additional DUI units patrolling throughout the city during this holiday weekend," Blake said. "If you plan to drink, please designate a driver or use alternate transportation. Have a happy and safe holiday weekend."
