Norwalk Police Announce Officer Of The Month For February 2026
Police said the Norwalk officer was selected "for his response, identification and apprehension of an armed robbery suspect."
NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department has announced its officer of the month for February 2026.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, police said Officer James Kassimis was selected as February's officer of the month "for his response, identification and apprehension of an armed robbery suspect."
According to police, a robbery was reported on Feb. 28 around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Winfield Street.

According to the initial details given out by headquarters, a suspect tried to purchase items from another person using fake money, then displayed a firearm and stole money and goods from them, according to police.
An officer who arrived in the area was able to get a more detailed description of the suspect, police said

Officers then began checking the area and were led to the area of Bridge Street due to shoeprints in the snow, according to police.
According to police, Kassimis identified the suspect from previous encounters and knew he lived in the area of Bridge Street.
Kassimis drove to the suspect's house, spoke to his mother and was able to locate the suspect quickly and arrest him without incident, according to police.
After further discussions with the mother, officers were able to locate a handgun used in the robbery, a 9mm semiautomatic pistol, the stolen goods and the clothes worn by the suspect during the robbery, according to police.
"Due to Officer James Kassimis' swift response, along with his keen knowledge of someone who matched the description of the robbery suspect who lived in that area, an armed robbery suspect was taken into custody swiftly without incident and no use of force," police wrote on Facebook.
The department also commended Kassimis in their post "for his professionalism, dedication and commitment to keeping our community safe."
