Victim Identified in Fatal Norwalk Police Chase Crash: Update
The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. near Richards Avenue.

NORWALK, CT — A 22-year-old Norwalk man has been identified as the man who was killed Thursday morning in the police chase that ended in a crash in West Norwalk, according to state police.
Vincent Fowlkes was the driver, and he was pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital following the crash, which occurred just after 11 a.m. The state police have taken over the investigation into the incident.
"At the request of the State Attorney’s office, the Connecticut State Police has assumed the investigation of the fatal car crash at 31 Geneva Rd., Norwalk," wrote Trooper First Class Kelly Grant in a statement. "The vehicle that crashed was being pursued by Norwalk Police Department resulting in one fatality. More details will follow as they become available."

A passenger in the 2008 Honda Civic, 19-year-old Norwalk resident Shawn Bowman, suffered serious injuries in the crash and has been hospitalized, according to state police.
The crash occurred after Fowlkes, who was traveling westbound on Geneva Road, could not negotiate a turn and careened onto properties on Geneva Road and smashed into a tree, state police said.

Geneva Road was temporarily closed at Richards Avenue, following the crash. Fowlkes and Bowman had to be extricated from their vehicle.

The Norwalk police officer involved in the chase was not injured.
