Norwalk Police Detective Retires After 38 Years Of Service

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department announced this week the retirement of William Maloney after 38 years of proud, faithful service.

In a Facebook post, the department wished Maloney will in his retirement, which began Thursday.

"We are very sad to see Bill leave," the post reads, "but we are very grateful for his loyal service, which helped to make our department and the city of Norwalk a better place for us all."

Maloney became a sworn member of the Norwalk Police Department on July 21, 1983. He served in the department's patrol division and was promoted to detective Jan. 26, 1989, where he served until his retirement, police said.

During his career, Maloney was recognized with Letters of Commendation and Officer of the Month awards on several occasions. He was also awarded for his quick actions while talking a woman who walked into police headquarters with a knife out of suicide.

Maloney also volunteered his time on many occasions, giving presentations to the community on fraud prevention. He received numerous letters from the citizens of Norwalk for his professionalism and dedication during his career, police said.
