Norwalk Police Issue Cold Water Reminder As Weather Warms Up
The department reminds Norwalk residents that despite high temperatures this week, "our local waters are still dangerously cold."
NORWALK, CT — Police remind Norwalk residents that despite recent high temperatures, the city's waters are still very cold.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, the department said while it has at times felt like summer this week, the Norwalk Marine Unit reminds boaters and paddlers that local waters are still dangerously cold.
"Cold water shock can happen in an instant, regardless of your swimming ability," police wrote on Facebook.

Residents heading out on the Long Island Sound this week are asked to remember the following, according to police:
- Wear your life jacket. It's much harder to put one on once you're already in the water.
- Dress for the water temp, not the air temp. Think layers or wetsuits.
- File a float plan. Let someone on land know where you're going and when you'll be back.
"Our Marine Unit is committed to keeping everyone safe on the water," police wrote. "Please take the necessary precautions and enjoy your time responsibly."
