Norwalk Police Provide Tips To Avoid Having Packages Stolen

NORWALK, CT - Police advise residents to beware of "porch pirates" looking to steal packages delivered to their homes this holiday season. The department has also provided safety tips to avoid becoming a victim of these types of crimes.

Here are some tips to help prevent having packages stolen, according to the Norwalk Police Department:

• Have your package delivered to your workplace
• Require a signature for delivery
• Schedule the delivery when someone will be home
• Ask a trusted neighbor or friend to pick it up
• Install video surveillance
• Arrange for the package to be left at the backdoor so it is not visible from the road; most of these thefts are crimes of opportunity
