Norwalk Police Warn Residents Of Phone Scams
Police warn residents to look out for scam calls claiming a family member or friend has been arrested and money must be sent to police.

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department is warning residents not to fall prey to phone scams.
In a news release, Police Lt. Joe Dinho said if residents receive a phone call from a person claiming a family member or friend has been arrested and money must be sent to the police department through any method other than in person at the department, the caller is attempting to scam them.
Dinho emphasized the police department only accepts bail and bonds in person at the police department.

"If you receive such a call, please hang up and then report the incident to the police," Dinho said in a news release. "You may also call the police department to inquire if a person is currently being held at the police department."
According to Dinho, these scammers "are very credible and may even claim they are the police" and ask residents to send money.
