Norwalk Public Schools Appoints New Human Resources Executive Director
Norwalk Public Schools has appointed a new interim acting executive director of human resources and legal counsel.
NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools has appointed Lewis D. Brey as the district's new interim acting executive director of human resources and legal counsel. Brey has been serving as the district's legal counsel since August.
According to a news release provided by the district, Brey previously served as the senior director of human resources and general counsel for the Greenwich Education Group, LLC and brought to Norwalk more than 25 years of labor and employment law and collective bargaining experience, as well as 14 years of experience as a director of human resources.
A balanced and thoughtful problem solver, Brey is a leader with a long track record of positive resolutions involving complex personnel, labor, legal and budgetary challenges in school systems, according to the district.

"As we identify a Director of Human Resources, I am thrilled that Lewis Brey will serve in the dual role of Executive Director of Human Resources and legal counsel and to be able to continue to work with our dedicated team in this new capacity," Lunda Asmani, chief financial officer for Norwalk Public Schools, said in a news release. "Lewis' expertise, commitment, and passion will be invaluable as we continue to provide a supportive and enriching environment for our students and staff. Together, we look forward to continuing to uphold the highest standards that have been established here at the district, fostering an inclusive educational community, and shaping a bright future for our schools."
Brey will continue to report to Asmani. Asmani and Norwalk Public Schools want to thank departing HR Director Gabrielle Parker for her service to the district and wish her the best of luck in future endeavors, according to the district.

At the Greenwich Education Group, Brey managed all human resources and legal issues for the Stamford-based company that operates two state-approved special education schools and an alternative learning academy, according to the district.
From 2010 to 2020, Brey was the Director of Human Resources and the Internal Counsel for Weston Public Schools where he oversaw all aspects of human resources management and related legal issues for a high-performing school district with 400 employees and 2,300 students.
From 2008 to 2010, he held the same position for Danbury Public Schools, managing employment and labor issues for a district with over 1,500 employees and 10,000 students, according to the district.
Brey served as an attorney at Spitzer & Brey from 1996 to 2008, representing clients in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, mediation and arbitration in Connecticut and New York, and in multi-state litigation, according to the district.
Brey is a member of the bar in the states of Connecticut and New York. He’s also a member of the bar for the District Courts of Connecticut, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of New York. He received his law degree from Pace University School of Law in 1995.
