Norwalk Public Schools Cancels Classes; Snow Emergency Declared
A major snow storm is headed our way Monday and Tuesday, prompting Mayor Harry Rilling to declare a snow emergency.
NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools has canceled classes for Monday, Feb. 1, due to the inclement weather expected to sweep through Connecticut overnight, district officials announced. Additionally, Mayor Harry Rilling declared a snow emergency from 8 p.m. Sunday until further notice.
Norwalk City Hall and government buildings and offices, and school district offices, will be closed Monday, and schools will not host remote instruction. All meal distribution sites also will be closed Monday, Rilling said.
"We will assess conditions throughout the day tomorrow before making a decision on school operations and instruction for Tuesday," school district officials wrote on Facebook. "Please watch your email, official district social media or our website for more information."

According to Rilling:
- The Yankee Doodle and Maritime Garages are open for free overnight parking.
- City garbage and recycling collection will be canceled tomorrow, February 1. All routes are now pushed back by a day. Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday routes collected Wednesday, etc.
- The Norwalk Transfer Station and Yard Waste Site will be closed tomorrow, February 1.
- COVID-19 testing operations at Veteran’s Park and Norwalk Community College, as well as pop up testing at Ponus Ridge Middle School, will be canceled tomorrow, February 1. It is likely testing operations will be delayed, if not canceled entirely, on Tuesday.
- The Community Room at the Norwalk Police Department is available as a warming center. COVID-19 protocols are in place, and face coverings are required.
Additionally, nearby private schools, New Canaan Country School, Greens Farms Academy in Westport and St. Luke's School in New Canaan, also canceled classes Monday due to the pending storm.
