Norwalk Public Schools Giving Away 50,000 Free Books This Weekend

Norwalk Public Schools will give away 50,000 free books to families in the area during their annual Reading Opens the World event Saturday.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools will give away 50,000 free books to families in the area during their annual Reading Opens the World event Saturday at Brien McMahon High School.

According to a news release, the school district and the NPS Coalition of Unions will host the annual event, an American Federation of Teachers initiative in partnership with First Book, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year, Norwalk Public Schools will be giving away 50,000 FREE books to families in the greater Norwalk area. Books will range from children's books to books for adults as well as books in Spanish.

The event will also include live storytellers, face painting, obstacle courses, hockey lessons with the New York Rangers and much more.

The open ceremony will start at 11 a.m. with greetings from Superintendent Alexandra Estrella and remarks from Mayor Harry Rilling as well as representatives from the state Department of Education, the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut, the Connecticut AFL-CIO, the Norwalk Federation of Education Personnel and the Norwalk Board of Education.

Brien McMahon High School is located at 300 Highland Avenue in Norwalk.
