Norwalk Public Schools Official Named Superintendent Of NJ District

Deputy Superintendent of Excellence, Equity and Inclusion Thomas McBryde has been named superintendent of Hackensack, N.J, Public Schools.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools announced this week Thomas McBryde, the district's deputy superintendent of excellence, equity and inclusion, has been named superintendent of Hackensack Public Schools in New Jersey.

According to a news release provided by the school district, the Hackensack Board of Education recently voted unanimously to approve the appointment.

"I'm very proud of the work Dr. McBryde has done for Norwalk Public Schools, spearheading our efforts to ensure each scholar receives an excellent and equitable education and building a culture of inclusion in our school community," Superintendent Alexandra Estrella said in a news release. "We strive to build leaders here, and I know McBryde will provide strong and caring leadership in his new role."

McBryde joined Norwalk Public Schools in summer 2021. In his role as deputy superintendent, McBryde promoted the inclusion of all students, families, staff and community members, encouraging all parties to embrace each other’s differences to build a culture of excellence and equity, district officials said.

During his time in Norwalk, McBryde established the My Brother's Keeper and My Sister's Keeper programs in Norwalk Public Schools, led the work with school equity teams to address implicit bias in schools, and led the development of new policies to create a more equitable grading system, school officials said.

"[McBryde's] efforts in these areas and many others across the district are very much appreciated, and Norwalk Public Schools wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors," district officials said in a news release.
