Mr. Cohen joined Northwell health five years ago as a consultant to develop long-term strategic and communication outreach plans for the Feinstein Institutes and was then brought on as an employee two years ago to implement those strategies. He oversaw the restructuring of the Feinstein Institute into five Institutes, the coordination of media outreach and external communications, and aided in management of the Office of the President and Research Support Services. Mr. Cohen has also played significant roles in launching the Covid-19 Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) and in obtaining and implementing a major construction grant supporting expansion of new laboratory space at 350 Community Drive.

Previously, David Battinelli, MD, Northwell Health’s chief medical officer, held the position since 2015. Dr. Battinelli will continue to work closely with researchers and investigators bridging the clinical and scientific programs across Northwell, the Feinstein Institutes and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine, and to provide advice and counsel to Kevin J Tracey, MD, president and CEO of the Feinstein Institutes, and the leadership team.

“We are extremely grateful to Dr. Battinelli for committing five years of operational effort to elevating research as a centralized function for all Northwell employees interested in clinical and non-clinical studies. And we are very pleased he will continue to work with us on these bridging and supporting efforts. Jonathan has played a very important leadership role in developing and executing our communication and growth strategies," said Dr. Tracey. "This promotion is a timely extension of the outstanding work he has been doing with Dr. Battinelli, the Northwell leadership team, and me.”

Prior to joining Northwell Health, Mr. Cohen provided management and strategic consulting to numerous clients in the healthcare, manufacturing, technology and energy industries, as well as to philanthropies and non-profit organizations. He has a bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College and a J.D. from New York Law School.
