The Mid-Fairfield Connecticut Stars U-14 team suffered a heartbreaking defeat Thursday to the top girls youth hockey program in the country.

After twice taking one-goal leads, the Connecticut Stars were on the short end of a 3-2 shootout defeat to Boston-based Assabet Valley in the Tier 1 national championship in Rochester, Mich.

Assabet Valley also handed the Connecticut Stars (42-6) one of its five regular-season losses.  

Ashley Carbone and Tiana Cass scored for Mid-Fairfield, which received  25 saves from Annie DeFrino.  Assabet Valley tied it 2-2 five minutes into the third.
 
 The U-12 team is facing Assabet Valley this afternoon.
 
The Connecticut Stars conclude pool play on Friday against Honeybaked.

Westhill 15, Norwalk 3 (5) - Tori Dugan and Patti Sciglimpaglia had two hits apiece for  Norwalk.

Fairfield Ludlowe 5, McMahon 1 - Senators were held to one hit

Baseball

Norwalk 6, Westhill 4 - Norwalk coach Pete Tucci, who returned to the dugout after a 12-year absence, earned his 200th career victory.

McMahon 16, Fairfield Ludlowe 5 - Brian Daniello tossed five scoreless innings and Ronnie Sherman hit a three-run homer.

New Canaan 18, McMahon 3 - Devon Machette scored two goals for the Senators.
