Norwalk Girls Basketball Upsets St. Joseph, 50-39

This time, Erica Cohens came up big for the girls basketball team.
Cohens scored 22 points Tuesday as the Bears upset St. Joseph 50-39 in Trumbull for a huge win.

Alexis Noonan added nine points for Norwalk, which improved 10-5 overall and 8-5 in the FCIAC. The Bears jumped into a five-way tie for sixth in the league standings with Westhill, Darien, Staples and Fairfield Warde. Staples upset Wilton on Tuesday.
Norwalk prevailed despite getting just four points from Emma Oyomba, who was coming off a 30-point effort in the Bears' previous contest.

However, Norwalk held St. Joseph's dangeroud duo of Jessica Jowdy (11) and Nancy Stablein (9) to a combined 20 points. Jowdy did have 10 rebounds.
St. Joseph opened a 10-8 lead after the first quarter, but Norwalk outscored the Cadets (12-3, 10-3) by a 15-5 margin in the second period to take a 23-15 lead at the half.
St. Joseph pulled within 31-27 after three but Norwalk pulled away with a 19-12 burst over the final eight minutes.

The McMahon boys basketball team garnered its second win of the season Tuesday with a 51-36 victory over Darien,
Darkym Stroud led a balanced attack for the Senators with just nine points. Larry McKinney and Shaka Moore each had eight for McMahon, which improved to 2-12 and 2-10.
George Phillips scored 17 points and Liam Naughton added eight for Darien, which dropped to 2-12 and 1-11.
The contest was close in the first quarter with the Senators holding a 14-10 lead.
However. McMahon outscored Darien 13-2 in the second quarter to build a 27-12 margin at the intermission.

Meg Marren scored 14 points Tuesday as the Darien girls basketball team posted a 50-34 victory over McMahon.
Emily Stein added 12 for the Blue Wave, who improved to 9-6 overall and 8-5 in the FCIAC and kept pace with the other playoff contenders.
Darien is in a five-way tie for sixth in the standings with Westhill, Norwalk, Staples and Fairfield Warde heading into a difficult four-game stretch in which the Blue Wave will play Norwalk, Wilton, Stamford and Warde,
Norwalk upset St. Joseph and Staples suprised Wilton on Tuesday to keep the race for the final few playoff spots as jumbled as ever.
Kyle Courtney, Karly Barreno and Aleigh Fitzpatrick each had six points for the Senators, who dropped to 3-13.
