The 14-year-old Norwalk Babe Ruth team begins play in the state tournament on Friday in Waterford. Norwalk won the title last week with a 3-2 victory over Fairfield, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Norwalk's 13 also defeated Fairfield to win the district title last week, but they are skipping the state tournament to prepare for the New England Regionals, which they are hosting starting July 30 at McMahon.
