It has been quite a week for Norwalk's Tommy McDonagh.

Just three days after capturing his second Connecticut Amateur championship, the Shorehaven Golf Club member added another victory to his resume.

McDonagh birdied the second sudden death playoff against Joe Saladino of the Huntington Country Club on Tuesday to claim the 56th Ike Championship at Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, N.J.

McDonagh, who also has a pair of victories in the Met Amateur to his credit, posted a winning score of 1-over 211 (71-68-72).

He had a chance to win in regulation, but three-putted for a bogey on No. 18 to force a three-hole playoff that went back and forth.

He grabbed the early lead in the playoff when Saladino two-putted for bogey after his approach on the first extra hole landed in the rough.

But McDonagh bogied the par-three second after missing the green and both players made short birdie putts on the par-five ninth to set the stage for a sudden death playoff.

Saladino scrambled to save par on the first sudden death hole after lying three with a tough chip to the ninth. However, McDonagh's birdie on the second extra hole ended a long day of golf in which the players played 41 holes.

It was a good day for Shorehaven as fellow member Cameron Wilson finished in a tie for third at 3-over 213 with Mike Stamberger of Spring Lake Country Club.

Greenwich's David Pastore was only two shots behind McDonagh after the second round, but ballooned to a 79 in the final round. He still finished alone in eighth place at 8-over 218 (69-71-78).

Curtis Loop of the Country Club of New Canaan also had a solid performance, finishing alone in fifth place at 5-over 215 (71-73-71) after reaching the semifinals of the Connecticut Amateur.

Another local golfer, Peter Ballo of Woodway, tied for 16th at 14-over 224 (73-75-76).

The course proved daunting throughout the tournament, especially in the afternoon on Tuesday, as Stamberger's 68 was the only under par score in the third round.

-- Norwalk advanced to the final of the 12-year-old Cal Ripken District One tournament with a 5-3 victory over New Canaan on Sunday.

It will play in the final on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Saxe Middle School Greenwich, which defeated Stratford 13-4 in the loser's bracket final on Tuesday.

Joey Lanni had two home runs and drove in six runs for the Greenwich, which needs to win twice to take the title as Norwalk has yet to lose in the tournament. An "if" game would be played on Thursday at Saxe at 5:30 p.m..

Last year, Norwalk's 12-year-old team played in the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md.

---- Norwalk opens play in the District One 12-year-old Little League tournament on Wednesday against Weston at 5:30 p.m. at Wilton's Bill Terry Field. Pool play continues through July 10.
