1. Norwalk boys soccer to host Stamford in state tourney.
After getting upset in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs as the top seed for the second straight season, the Norwalk boys soccer team hosts No. 30 seed Stamford in the first round of the Class LL state tournament on Friday (7 p.m.).
Last year, Norwalk posted a 14-2-0 regular-season record, but had little to show for it as the Bears were stunned by New Canaan in the FCIAC playoffs before getting bounced by No. 13 seed Simsbury in the second round of the states.

A year later, Norwalk put together another stellar regular season, going 13-1-2. Once again, however, the Bears were shown the door in the FCIAC playoffs by New Canaan.
With 27 regular-season wins under its belt in the last two years, the third-seeded Bears are desperate for an extended run in the state tournament.

The Bears will be a heavy favorite in their first round-game on Friday (7 p.m.) against the Black Knights, (6-9-1), the last team into the tournament.
However, Norwalk could face a test in the second round on Monday against No. 19 Westhill if the Vikings can get past No. 14 Bristol Central.
After starting 0-5, which included forfeiting three wins for using an ineligible player, Westhill was the hottest team in the FCIAC down the stretch, going 9-0-2 to land the No. 6 seed in the playoffs. The Vikings did lose to third-seeded Darien in the FCIAC quarterfinals.
Perennial state title contender Staples (12 state championships) is in Norwalk's part of the draw, meaning the Bears could see the Wreckers in the quarterfinals.
Also in Norwalk's quarter of the draw is defending state champion Farmington, which defeated Staples in last year's finals. Farmington and Staples are on course to meet in the second round. It would be an unusually early meeting for the state powers, but the Wreckers have a relatively low No. 11 seeding. Farmington is sixth.
2. McMahon field hockey team advances
Natalie Leslie scored two goals and Nicole Angeley, Holli Stephens and Lauren Flournoy each added one as the McMahon field hockey team routed No. 19 Southington on Thursday in a Class L qualifying contest.
The Senators improved to 7-7-3 and will play at No. 2 seed Glastonbury on Friday (2 p.m.)
Norwalk (12-2-1-0) has the No. 3 seed and will host Fairfield Warde winner in another first-round clash on Friday (5 p.m.). Warde advanced with a 1-0 overtime win against Westhill.
3. Norwalk football hosts Ludlowe Saturday
After a bye last week, the Norwalk football team returns to action on Saturday when its hosts winless Fairfield Ludlowe (0-8).
The Bears, who defeated Harding 42-20 on Oct. 31, are fourth in the Class LL rankings and can clinch a state playoff berth with wins in their final two games.
Norwalk does not figure to have much trouble with Ludlowe, which is coming off a 48-14 loss at Danbury and has allowed 40 or points in four straight games.
McMahon (3-5) looks to snap a two-game losing streak when its Stamford on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Last week, the Senators fell to Greenwich, which clinched a spot in the FCIAC championship game Thursday with a 17-7 win at Danbury.
Stamford pulled off the biggest upset in the FCIAC last week, stunning New Canaan 36-29 for its first win over the Black Knights since 1977.
McMahon will have to contend with Stamford quarterback Bryan Boderick, who accounted for five touchdowns in the win over New Canaan - three through the air and two on the ground.
