Coming off a critical 41-36 victory over Stamford, the girls basketball team looks to move closer to wrapping up an FCIAC playoff spot on Friday when the Bears visiit Harding (5:30 p.m.).
Norwalk (12-5, 10-5) has won four in a row to climb to sixth in the FCIAC standings, one game ahead of Darien, Stamford, Staples and Fairfield Warde, who all tied for seventh at 9-6.
After facing Harding (3-13, 1-13), Norwalk closes the regular season next week with games against Bridgeport Central and Westhill. The Bears may need to win only one of their three remaining games to clinch a playoff spot.
The Norwalk boys, who are also fighting for a playoff spot, host Harding on Friday in another 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
The Bears (9-7, 7-7) are currently 12th in the standings, but just one-half game out of playoff position as Danbury, Fairfield Warde, Stamford and Staples are all tied for eighth at 7-6.
Norwalk looks to rebound from Tuesday's potentially critical 64-56 loss to Stamford while Harding (3-12, 2-11) is coming off a 43-32 defeat to Fairfield Ludlowe.
Following Friday's contest, Norwalk has a tough closing schedule with contests against Bridgeport Central, Westhill and Danbury. Ten wins could be the cutoff, meaning the Bears might have to win three of their final four games to make the FCIAC playoffs.
Also on Friday, the McMahon boys visit undefeated St. Joseph (7 p.m.) while the McMahon girls host St. Joseph at 5:30 p.m.
