King's Drew Sawyer Following In Father's Footsteps

Like father, like son.
Norwalk resident Drew Sawyer, a junior guard on the King Low Heywood Thomas boys basketball team, recently scored his 1,000 career point.

He matched a feat achieved by his father Stacey Sawyer, who played at Norwalk High School in the early 1980s.
The younger Sawyer is in his second year at King after spending two seasons at Norwalk. He scored his 1,000 point in a loss to the Masters School on Wednesday, then added 18 more on Friday against Brunswick, bringing his career total to 1,029.

Drew Sawyer is approaching his father's mark of 1,136. Stacey Sawyer graduated from Norwalk in 1983.

The Norwalk-McMahon boys hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to Sheehan on Monday that dropped the Bears to 3-12.
Mike McRoy and Rocco Bocchetta scored in the second period for Norwalk, which sliced a 3-1 deficit to 3-2 after 30 minutes.
However, Ryan Kiernan completed his hat trick two minutes into the third period to restore Sheehan's two-goal lead.
Christian Giacondino also scored for the Titans, who improved to 7-8.
Will Valleau made 37 saves for Sheehan and Richie Henderson stopped 39 shots for Norwalk.

Coming off a huge win over Darien, the Norwalk girls basketball team continues its pursuit of an FCIAC playoff spot on Tuesday when the Bears host Stamford at 7 p.m. in another critical game.
Friday's 66-53 victory Darien left Norwalk (11-5, 9-5) in a three-way tie for sixth in the FCIAC standings with Stamford and Staples.
Those three teams are one game ahead of Darien, Fairfield Warde and Westhill, who are tied for ninth at 8-6 with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Emma Oyomba had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bears in the win over Darien. Katie Schmidt scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Alexis Noonan also reached double figures for the Bears with 11 points.
Stamford (9-7, 9-5) is coming off a superb defensive effort in a 43-23 victory over New Canaan. The Black Knights nearly blanked the Rams in the first half, building a 25-2 lead at the intermission.
The Norwalk boys visit Stamford in a 7 p.m. start. The Bears are coming off a 52-30 victory over Darien while Stamford followed up its upset of Ridgefield with an 82-40 drubbing of New Canaan.
Norwalk (9-6, 7-6) is in ninth place in the FCIAC standings, one-half game out of a playoff spot. Stamford (7-7, 6-6) is in a three-way tie for 10th with Fairfield Warde and Staples.
The McMahon teams are off on Tuesday.
