Riggins faced a tougher test in the semifinals, but decisioned Spencer Foucher of Mt Anthony, Vt., 7-2. In the finals, the Norwalk senior decisioned Kyle Foster of Somers by the same 7-2 score in a rematch of last week's championship match in the state Open meet.

Six wrestlers from the state won gold medals as Riggins was joined in the winner's circle by Westhill's Pascal Medor (106 pounds), Daniel Hand's William Crisco (120 pounds), Newington's Christopher Chorzepa (170 pounds), Middletown's Devon Carrillo (182 pounds) and Xavier's Sean Marinan (220 pounds). The six gold medals fell one short of the state record set in 1990.
