Norwalk Superintendent Receives NABE Ramón Santiago Award

Alexandra Estrella accepted the award for "significant contributions to bilingual education," according to Norwalk Public Schools.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools announced this week Superintendent Alexandra Estrella has received the NABE Ramón Santiago Award from the National Association for Bilingual Education.

According to a news release, Estrella accepted the award Feb. 23 for "significant contributions to bilingual education and the National Association for Bilingual Education through substantial service and/or development or provision of resources."

The award honors the memory of Dr. Ramón Santiago, the former NABE president whose dedication and leadership were unparalleled in ensuring the survival of association, according to the district.

Estrella accepted the award at the National Association of Bilingual Education 2023 Conference, the theme of which was "United in Our Diversity: The Power of Languages and Cultures."

NABE is the only national, non-profit professional organization dedicated to representing and advocating for bilingual and multilingual students, as well as bilingual and dual language education professionals, according to the district.
