Fresh off its successful European performance tour, the Norwalk Youth Symphony (NYS), announces it will be holding its annual auditions for the 2016 - 2017 season beginning Saturday, August 27 to Tuesday, September 6 at Norwalk City Hall located at 125 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. NYS is a renowned youth orchestra program serving Connecticut and Westchester County and the upcoming season will include performance at Carnegie Hall. Membership is open to talented musicians in 4th through 12th grades who play stringed, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. NYS offers a variety of playing levels which allows us to accommodate both young new musicians who are just starting out to those who have been playing for years and are looking for opportunities to play advanced repertoire. Our core program consists of 6 tiered orchestras.

- Principal Orchestra is a full orchestra performing advanced repertoire.
- Concert Orchestra is a full orchestra performing at an intermediate level.
- Philharmonia String Orchestra is a mid-level string orchestra providing a transition to Concert Orchestra.
- Philharmonia Orchestral Winds is a wind ensemble providing specific training to wind, brass, and percussion players.
- Prelude Orchestra is an entry-level orchestra for string players.
- Junior Strings provides an introduction to ensemble play.
Member musicians can take advantage of a variety of additional programs and performance opportunities to enhance their education. These include: the Small Ensembles Program which provides string and wind players of all levels an opportunity to learn and perform chamber music; Master Classes, Additional performance experiences in such places as Carnegie Hall, Tanglewood, Music in the Parks, and other appropriate venues; and, a biannual international performance tour.
