Norwalkers Win Minute Man Womens 10K, Mens 5K Races

Norwalkers win as a record crowd runs in Westport's Minute Man Race.

A record crowd ran Sunday in the 33rd annual Minute Man Race at Compo Beach, and among the winners were Norwalkers Leslie Sporre, 34, and Noredine Abdelfateh, 29.

Abdelfateh won the 5K men's competition finishing in 17:11. Sporre won the 10K women's race in 44:03. Both were first-time participants in the event.

The race—which includes a 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run—is sponsored by the Westport Young Woman's League. All told, nearly 1,500 runners participated and more than $45,000 was raised for local charities.

For the women's 5K race, Andi Rosenblatt, a 13-year-old girl from Weston, won in 21:54. She's a seventh grader.

Westporter Tom Harding, a fixture at the Minute Man Race, won the 10K event with a time of 35:52. He's a repeat winner from past years.
