Norwalk's Carryout Bag Ordinance Goes Into Effect July 8
Norwalk is poised to join several other Connecticut communities in banning single-use plastic bags.
NORWALK, CT — Six months after the Common Council unanimously approved the measure, Norwalk will begin banning single-use plastic bags on July 8.
Known as the Carryout Bag Ordinance, the new law bans the use of plastic carryout bags, and calls for a $0.10 charge for carryout bags made of paper.
"The ordinance applies to any person, business or non-profit entity that sells or provides merchandise, goods, food and beverages, or materials operating in the City of Norwalk," officials state on a city webpage about the ordinance.

In January when the council approved the measure, Council President Tom Livingston told Patch that city officials put in a lot of effort toward passage.
"We worked hard on this for the last few months, and a lot of thought and energy has gone into it. We all believe it's an important issue, and we're all just very pleased that we have gotten this far," Livingston said in January.
