Norwalk's New School Bus Contract Means Layoffs, Old Company Says

First Student lost the contract to Durham.

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Public School System will end its school bus contract with First Student at the end of the current school year, which the company says will result in the permanent layoff of all of its employees in Norwalk.

In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter to the state Department of Labor dated April 27, Vincent Cappiello, area general manager for First Student, said its contract with the Norwalk district will end on or about June 30.

Following the end of the First Student contract 85 employees will lose their jobs, writes Westfair Communications. The employees, who worked at First Student's Wilson Avenue site, are represented by the Teamsters Local 191.
