Obituary : Herman Haynie, Jr.

Herman Haynie Jr was born May 19th, 1932, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Herman Haynie, Sr and Margaret Golden Haynie. He was preceded in death by both parents, three sisters Margie Lee Haynie, Hazel Haynie Meredith (his twin sister), and Peggy Haynie Bryant, and four brothers Walter, Cannon, Robert, and Edward Haynie; and his son Keith Haynie.

Herman attended Orange County Public Schools in Winter Park, Florida, and moved to Norwalk, Connecticut in the early 1950’s. Herman was a member of the United States Air Force and was stationed in both Anchorage, Alaska, and Dallas, Texas, after marrying Barbara Ann Webb Haynie on June 28th, 1952.

Herman was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Norwalk, Connecticut for over 50 years and worked at Wagner pools for over 20 years and Genovese Construction up to his retirement. He passed his time hanging with friends at the Dunkin Donuts on West Ave and McDonald’s on Belden Ave in Norwalk, Connecticut, in addition to playing his lotto numbers daily and making his famous sweet potato pies.

Herman was well known throughout the Norwalk community and departed this life in Norwalk Hospital on January 6, 2020 from sudden illness. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Barbara of Norwalk, Connecticut; four children Terrance Haynie (Liza) of Brookfield, Connecticut, Vanessa Barros (Richard) of Norwalk, CT, Troy Haynie (Ingrid) of Stamford, Connecticut, Shanda Haynie (Joseph Baskin) of Norwalk, CT; his remaining siblings Frederick Haynie of Orlando, Florida, and Frank Haynie (Marguerite) of Orlando, Florida; his goddaughter Wendy Lake Hankins (Ray) of Norwalk, Connecticut; ten grandchildren Briana Haynie of Los Angeles, California, Michaela Haynie of Bethel, Connecticut, Bryce Barros of Los Angeles, California, Andrea Barros of Wallingford, Connecticut, Jaelyn Stultz, Mariah and Joey Baskin of Norwalk, Connecticut, Diana Davis, Tyler and Lauryn Haynie of Stamford, Connecticut; two special grandchildren Jordyn Sesler of Norwalk, Connecticut and Julian Andresen of Norwalk, Connecticut; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Those whose lives Herman touched are invited to Hoyt-Cognetta / Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, in Historic Norwalk, CT 06851, from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2020, followed by a memorial service at Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut 06854 at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 11, 2020 concluding with Military Honors. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery in the near future.
