Obituary: Joan Maloney Bloom, 90, Of Norwalk
She worked at the South Norwalk Library and as secretary to the comptroller for the city of Norwalk, John Smith, before retiring in 1995.

Joan Maloney Bloom, 90, a lifelong resident of Norwalk died Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Norwalk Hospital.
Daughter of the late John W. and Rosine Maloney, she was the widow of Donald F. Bloom.

Joan graduated from Norwalk High School in 1949. She had worked at the South Norwalk Library in the late 1970's, early 1980's as a part-time secretary and bookkeeper to the director, George Krzyzak. She then became secretary to the comptroller for the city of Norwalk, John Smith, and retired in 1995. She had always handled the finances and bookkeeping for her husband and brother-in-law at Seymour's Hardware in Norwalk and when she retired from the city of Norwalk continued to work with them.
Always up on current events, reading the paper, watching the news, she was the family media connection, alerting everyone to breaking news.

She would often share her stories about growing up in South Norwalk in the 1930’s and '40's, describing in detail the significant events in her life among her circle of family and friends. She often spoke about graduating from Norwalk High School, marrying her beloved Don and raising her family in Norwalk.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Cynde) and her husband Bill Lahey, Cheryl and her husband John Carbonell, Donald Jr. and his wife Allison (Palladino) Bloom; her grandchildren, Caylin, John and Christopher Carbonell, Rebecca and Timothy Bloom; her brother, James Maloney of Fort Lauderdale, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk, on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11:30 a.m.
The family has requested that memorial contributions in Joan's memory be made to the Norwalk Public Library, Norwalk History Room, 1 Belden Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850 or STAR, Inc. 182 Wolfpit Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851.
