Obituary: Joseph DeMartino, Jr., 86, Of Norwalk

Joe enjoyed playing Santa at various work, church and community events, a part that let his naturally jolly self shine.

Joseph DeMartino, Jr, age 86, formerly of Norwalk, died on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Milford Healthcare Center.

Born in Norwalk, the son of the late Joseph Sr and Angelina (Vena) DeMartino, he was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in both the Army and National Guard. He had retired from the Parks and Recreation Dept. for the City of Norwalk after 35 years of service.

After his retirement, Joe worked at Shoprite for another 10 years, and enjoyed playing Santa at various work, church and community events, a part that let his naturally jolly self shine.

For the past 10 years Joseph lived in Milford with Scott & Deidre Anderson and their daughter Olivia, and enjoyed their company and care. He enjoyed meeting with his buddies at the local Dunkin' Donuts.

Predeceased by his wife, Marie (Romanelli) DeMartino, a sister and brother, he is survived by three sons; Scott, William and Mark Anderson and their families, including grandchildren Kevin Anderson, Lisa Gale and Ryan Anderson as well as nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends Friday at noon at the Magner Funeral Home (12 Mott Ave, Norwalk), with a prayer service to be held at 1 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
