Obituary: Joseph Lovas, 81, Of Norwalk

Norwalk native Joseph Lovas died on February 18, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 30, 1940 to Stephen and Frances (MacCormick) Lovas.

Joe attended Wright Technology High School in Stamford, studying Automotive Mechanics followed by three years in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Roan, a Navy Destroyer, as an Engineering Mate, 2nd class.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he continued his education attending Norwalk Tech getting a degree in Metallurgy and then attending the University of Bridgeport earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at UB, he met his wife Virginia (Ginny). They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Upon graduation from college, Joe worked for Burndy Corporation for several years. After that, he purchased Wasencky Bros with partner Thomas Topar. Wasencky Bros is a spring and truck repair business in Norwalk.

Joe also joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a volunteer component of Team Coast Guard. Joe just recently attained his 50th anniversary with the organization. He served many years as the member training officer in Flotilla 72.

Joe is survived by his wife and brothers Edward and Paul Lovas, as well as nieces Elizabeth Lovas and Tricia Perez, and nephews Eric and Chris Lovas along with six great nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Collins Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 24th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
