Obituary : Mary Barboza Roman

She was the Norwalk City Clerk for 8 years for three different Mayors. She also volunteered for many different non-profit organizations

Mary Barboza Roman, 84, passed away at Norwalk Hospital on March 23, 2020 at 5:48 P.M.
Mary was born September 30, 1935 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She was the oldest of three children born to Arthur and Beatrice Barboza. She graduated from Williams High School in Stockbridge, Massachusetts where she participated in Women’s Basketball and Softball. Upon her graduation from Williams High School, Mary attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Mary was a very active member in her community; she was the Norwalk City Clerk for 8 years for three different Mayors. She also volunteered for many different non-profit organizations such as the Norwalk Senior Center and was President of the Rotary Club. Mary enjoyed being competitive which drove her to participate in the Senior Olympics, she then moved on to the USA Track and Field Master’s Division. Mary has won over 300 medals and holds 2 World Records for her age in the throwing events. She has touched her hearts of many and will be missed by all.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Granville, Sister Charlotte (Hoyt) and Son Warren.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Roman, Kenneth Roman, Craig Roman and his wife Suzanna, as well as Gerald Roman and his wife Jennifer. Her grandchildren; Phyllis (Skyes) Warren Jr., Dana, Kyle, Meredith, Alexis, Kenneth Jr., Makinze and Jordan. Great grandchildren; Brandon (Nicole) Waller, Donovan (Skyes), Devon (Skyes) Tiffany (Roman), Kaleb (Roman), Nevaeh (Moore) and Keemiya (Gross). Great great grandchildren; Ariana, Aaron, and Aubrey Waller. Mary is also survived by her Niece Mary and her husband Bill Romanowski as well as William Hoyt and his wife Anna.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Hoyt-Cognetta / Raymond Funeral Home in Historic Norwalk has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit www.norwalkfh.com to leave an online condolence.
