Obituary: Michael D. Barbarula, 89, Of Norwalk

He coached baseball in the Pony, Colt, and Senior Babe Ruth leagues, as well as more than 25 years in the Ben Whone National Little League.

Michael D. Barbarula, 89, of Norwalk, loving husband of 69 years to Anne (Marino), entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2021. He was born on April 3, 1932 in Hoboken, New Jersey and was a proud resident of Norwalk for more than 80 years.

A graduate of Norwalk High School, Michael served his country honorably during the Korean War. He worked as an office manager for a number of local plumbing supply companies, and retired after working at his favorite job as a clerk at the Norwalk Probate Court.

Michael, known as Mickey to his family, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and the UConn women’s basketball team. He coached baseball in the Pony, Colt, and Senior Babe Ruth leagues, as well as more than 25 years in the Ben Whone National Little League. He also coached basketball in the St. Phillip’s church league.

The Ben Whone league named its senior division after him in 1997 and he was honored by the Norwalk Old Timer’s Association in 2003. Most of all, Michael loved spending time with his family at gatherings, baseball games, and swim meets.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Marie (Riccio), and his brothers, Ralph and Ronald. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons Michael (Debra) and Christopher (Noreen), four grandchildren, Michael (Rebecca), Jon (Chorok), Ian, and Sarah, as well as his loving extended family.

Michael’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Phillip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk, with interment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
