NORWALK, CT — Police have identified a city resident who was fatally struck by an unmarked police vehicle responding to a call for service Monday night in Norwalk.

In an update sent to media Tuesday afternoon, Chief of Police James Walsh said Police Detective Andrew Roncinske, 40, of Norwalk, was driving east on Connecticut Avenue in an unmarked Norwalk police vehicle around 6 p.m. when he approached a green traffic light at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue.

According to Walsh, a Jamis T6 bicycle ridden by Manuel Bonilla-Gomez, 68, of Norwalk, traveling south on Clinton Avenue approached a red traffic light at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and continued into the intersection, where the bike collided with Roncinske's vehicle, a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox Ls.
