Popular Norwalk Bakery Closing Soon

A popular bakery in Norwalk will soon be closing after more than 60 years in business.

NORWALK, CT — After more than half a century of servicing hungry, loyal customers, a popular Main Street bakery in Norwalk will be shutting its doors for good this month.

According to the Norwalk Hour, Muro's Original New York Bakery & Deli plans to close its doors May 27 after more than 60 years in business. Owner Dominic Muro said the decision was bittersweet, but was also something that took a lot of thought.

Muro said factors like permit parking at a nearby lot and competition from grocery stores have significantly impacted his business, according to the Hour.

"We as a family like to think of our patrons as our family and friends as well. We have a self serve coffee bar and a full-service deli," the website reads. "All our baking and cooking is done on the premises from scratch. You can be sure to see one of us greeting patrons on any given day, or making you a lunch sandwich in the deli."

They also offer a large-scale catering menu, offering everything under the sun from buffalo wings, chicken parmigiana and subs to cold cut platters that serve 10-35 people.

The bakery has received high praise from customers over the years. Yelp reviewer Kathryn S. said "This is the bakery I grew up with so I have to stop in whenever I'm in town. I love their chocolate swirl cookies and their hard rolls are still as good as ever."
