Popular Wine Bar, Tapas Restaurant Closes In Norwalk After Nearly A Decade

A spokesperson for the wine bar and tapas restaurant confirmed the Norwalk location closed over the weekend.

NORWALK, CT — A popular Norwalk wine bar and restaurant specializing in tapas closed over the weekend after nearly a decade of serving customers at The Waypointe complex.

In an email Tuesday, a spokesperson confirmed to Patch that Barcelona Wine Bar, located at 515 West Avenue, was closed as of Saturday following the restaurant's last day of service.

According to the spokesperson, the Waypointe location opened in 2016 as a prototype restaurant and was founded close to the company's headquarters to test innovations in restaurant equipment, layout and design before rolling them out to other Barcelona locations.

Barcelona currently operates restaurants in 11 states and Washington, D.C., including four Connecticut locations in Fairfield, Stamford, New Haven and West Hartford.

The Norwalk restaurant is the only Barcelona location to close, and every team member in Norwalk has been offered continued employment at the company's other restaurants and its corporate office, according to the spokesperson.

Team members who chose not to continue received severance packages, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also teased a new restaurant from the Barcelona team, Corsica Wine Bar, currently planned to open this fall in Darien.

The Norwalk restaurant opened at The Waypointe in late 2016 after moving from its previous location in South Norwalk, where it operated for nearly 20 years prior to the move, according to CT Bites.

In September, Mighty Quinn's BBQ closed its sole Connecticut restaurant on Merwin Street near The Waypointe complex less than a year after opening.

Sedona Taphouse also closed its only Connecticut restaurant at the complex in June after nearly a decade in business.
