Power Outage, Coronavirus Case Closed 3 Norwalk Schools Monday

Ponus Ridge Middle and Nathan Hale Middle schools were on remote learning schedules Monday, and the Early Childhood Center was closed.

NORWALK, CT — Three Norwalk schools were closed Monday, two due to outages caused by Sunday's storm, and one to allow for contact tracing following the discovery of a coronavirus case over the weekend, according to district officials.

Ponus Ridge Middle School and the Norwalk Early Childhood Center on Allen Road were closed due to the effects of the storm. As of 10:15 a.m. Monday, more than 1,100 Eversource customers in Norwalk were without power.

Nathan Hale Middle School was closed Monday following the discovery of a coronavirus case within the school's community; the closure will allow time for contact tracing.

Both Ponus Ridge and Nathan Hale are on remote learning schedules Monday as a result of their closures. Joining them under remote learning protocols were Jefferson Elementary School students who are at Ponus Ridge, according to officials.

Sunday's storm knocked down trees and wires in Norwalk and throughout the area, causing power outages for thousands of Eversource customers. More than 16,000 were without power statewide as of 10:15 a.m., according to the company.
