From the Norwalk Public Library: Join us for Norwalk Public Library’s first, First Friday event of 2020 on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. for a film screening of “The Public.” A light supper (soup’s on!) will be provided courtesy of the library, followed by the screening. This event is part of the Norwalk Arts District First Friday series.

In “The Public,” an act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati take over the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold. "The Public” refers both to the Cincinnati public library where most of the story takes place and to the larger public, the individuals and the idea of the public good or the public interest. A drama, “The Public” was directed and written by Emilio Estevez, who also stars in the film alongside an ensemble cast including Alec Baldwin, Jena Malone, Christian Slater, Gabrielle Union, Taylor Schilling, Jacob Vargas, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Jeffrey Wright.

This program is free and open to the public on a walk-in basis. Visit www.norwalkartsdistrict.com for additional information about Norwalk’s First Friday series.
