'Significant Delays' Expected During Norwalk Fireworks Display: Police

Police said heavy traffic delays should be expected before and after the city's annual fireworks display taking place this weekend.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk's annual fireworks display is scheduled to take place Sunday at Calf Pasture Beach.

According to a news release, Norwalk police will have enhanced security at this event, during which uniformed officers will patrol the beach, along with members of the Emergency Services Unit, as in previous years.

"The Norwalk Department of Police Service wants all attendees to have a happy and safe time," police said in a news release.

Officers will be working traffic posts in lower East Norwalk, and those traveling in lower East Norwalk should expect significant delays prior to and after the fireworks due to anticipated heavy attendance.

All drivers are asked to use extreme caution due to the high volume of pedestrian traffic in and around Beach Road, police said.

"We ask all drivers to be patient and courteous, as our officers will do their best to clear the traffic as quickly as possible," police said.

Police also remind all attendees that glass, dogs, and fireworks are not allowed at Calf Pasture Beach. Anyone found with these items could be subject to fine and even removal from the beach.

"We remind everyone to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911," police said. "If you see something, say something. Have a happy and safe July 4 weekend."
