Social Media Post Leads To Police Investigation At Norwalk HS
Additional police officers are patrolling at the high school on Thursday.
NORWALK, CT — A threatening social media post directed at Norwalk High School of a picture of a person holding what appears to be a gun has resulted in an investigation by Norwalk police and an increase of patrols at the school on Thursday, according to officials.
Norwalk High School Principal Reginald Roberts notified parents of the investigation on Thursday morning, but added that the police department "is confident that there is no credible threat" to the school.
"The person in the picture is not a Norwalk High School student or a Norwalk Public Schools student," Roberts wrote in a Facebook post. "Further, NPD believes the person is not actually in the United States at all."

The police department notified the school about the post on Wednesday, after it was brought to the department's attention by parents. Authorities have identified the person who originally posted the photo, but information on that individual was not released.
"[The] person was interviewed and their house was searched. The photo was found to have originated from outside the United States and investigators have determined that this was not a credible threat," wrote Norwalk police in a statement.

The extra patrols at the school were "out of an abundance of caution," so that students, staff and parents can feel safe.
"It was, however, inappropriate to post and we are addressing accordingly, including having conversations with our students about acceptable and responsible online behavior," Roberts said to parents. "Please reinforce these lessons at home as well."
