State Legal Victory Benefits Norwalk Special Ed Students: Report

NORWALK, CT — Special education students in Norwalk, whose families sued the state, recently won a legal victory that will require the Norwalk school district to improve access to special education programs, writes the Connecticut Law Tribune.

The families of more than an dozen special education students filed a complaint with the state Department of Education's Bureau of Special Education to force the changes, because they argued that the district was failing to meet the needs of the students.

Attorneys Robin Keller and Kathryn Meyer, and special education advocate Jill Chuckas, secured the victory, which requires the Norwalk district to more quickly process special education assessments, in addition to other improvements.
