Update: Stranded Boater Rescued In Norwalk Waters

The victim may have been missing since yesterday.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Fire rescuers and other marine units helped rescue a boater who became stranded at the Greens Ledge Lighthouse Sunday morning.

Norwalk Fire units were dispatched at 11:38 a.m. after they got a call from the Coast Guard about the stranded person. Suffolk County Marine Unit also assisted with the incident.

The 56-year-old man from Huntington, N.Y. left on his kayak from Oyster Bay, N.Y. around 5 p.m. Saturday and told his roommate he would be home in a couple of hours, said Norwalk Deputy Chief Chris King. The roommate discovered he hadn't returned the next morning and reported him missing.

The kayak had started to take on water and drifted toward the Connecticut shore and became stranded on the lighthouse around midnight between Saturday and Sunday.

He was treated for hypothermia, but was awake and alert when found.
