Students Enjoy 'Very Warm Atmosphere' As They Return To School In Norwalk

NORWALK, CT — Students across the city enjoyed a warm atmosphere as they officially returned to Norwalk Public Schools for the first day of classes Wednesday, according to the district.

As elementary, middle and high school students throughout Norwalk stepped back into school buildings for the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, Emily Morgan, the district's communications and public relations lead, said the first day was "a great success" overall.

"It was a day full of excitement that was seen from students, staff, families and the community," Morgan said in an email to Patch. "Schools and staff are elated to have students back in the building."

According to Morgan, arrival and drop-off traffic were commensurate to a normal first day back.

"There were some minor transportation delays here and there, which was anticipated as a potential occurrence with ongoing road construction around Norwalk," Morgan said. "All in all, it was a very successful day and we are so appreciative of our transportation team for their hard work and communication."

Morgan also noted students and staff enjoyed "a very warm atmosphere" during the first day of school.

"One thing that has stood out this year is that schools have been very active in producing content around welcoming back both teachers and students this week," Morgan said. "The content has been super well received and we have received great feedback from every school community."

This year was also notable for Norwalk High School and P-TECH Norwalk students, who enjoyed "their last ever first day" in the current building as work continues on a new building planned to open in 2027, according to Morgan.

"Staff and students will move into the brand new building a year from now," Morgan said. "The district and the school will be putting out content throughout the year memorializing the old building and looking forward to the new one."
