Swan Frozen In Icy River Rescued By Firefighters In Norwalk: FD

Fire officials said crews donned cold water rescue suits and carefully entered the Norwalk River to recuse a swan stuck in the icy waters.

NORWALK, CT — A swan stuck in the icy waters of the Norwalk River near Wall Street was rescued by firefighters Tuesday morning, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

In a news release, Chief Edward McCabe said crews were called to the Wall Street Bridge after receiving a report of a swan frozen in the icy waters of the river.

According to McCabe, firefighters donned cold water rescue suits and carefully entered the river to reach the animal.

Crews then safely freed the swan from the surrounding ice and brought the animal to shore without incident, McCabe said.

The swan was then taken to the VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk for evaluation and additional care, according to McCabe.

"This incident highlights the department's all-hazards readiness and commitment to protecting both residents and wildlife in the community," McCabe said in a news release.
