Tenants Relocated Following Structure Fire In Norwalk: FD

Fire officials said the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk fire officials said two dwelling units were deemed unfit for occupancy following a structure fire Wednesday afternoon at a housing complex on Suncrest Road in Norwalk. According to a press release, firefighters were called to the area at 3:35 p.m. for a "reported outside burning."

The initial arriving engine company reported heavy fire at the rear of the building had extended into the structure, fire officials said. (To sign up for Norwalk breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"The initial engine company stretched the tagline through the structure to the rear and proceeded to extinguish the exterior fire," Deputy Chief Todd M. Smith said in a release, "which had by this time extended up the structure's vinyl siding and into the structure itself, including through the soffits into the attic."

Firefighters were also able to extinguish the interior fire, however two units were deemed unfit for occupancy, fire officials said. The tenants were relocated by the Norwalk Housing Authority.

Fire officials said there were no reported injuries. The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
