Training Helps Norwalk Police Recognize, Assist People with Autism: Report
Norwalk Deputy Corporation Counsel M. Jeffry Spahr and a certified instructor from Wallingford-based Autism Services conduct the training.

NORWALK, CT — The city's police department is receiving training in recognizing and assisting people with autism, reports The Hour.
Norwalk Deputy Corporation Counsel M. Jeffry Spahr and Sara Locke, a certified instructor from Wallingford-based Autism Services, conduct the training, which has become part of the Norwalk department's annual training. Both Spahr and Locke are parents of children diagnosed with autism.
People with autism can sometimes react to situations differently than people not diagnosed on the spectrum, so the training can help officers "interact effectively" with those citizens, Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik told The Hour.
