Want To Be In CT's 1 Percent? You Need to Make This Much
A new report on income inequality by the Economic Policy Institute spells out how much you'll need to earn to reach the threshold.

Believe it or not, some 1 percenters have it harder than others.
Take those in Connecticut who have reached that threshold. To be considered among the state's wealthiest's 1 percent, you have to make the most amount of money in the United States compared to the 1 percenters in other states, according to a new report on income inequality by the Economic Policy Institute.
The report studied 2013. To be in Connecticut's 1 percent class, you have to earn $659,979, the report states, more than $100,000 more than second place District of Columbia, where you'd have to earn $554,719. Next is New Jersey ($547,737), followed by Massachusetts ($539,055), and New York ($517,557).

By comparison, while the Connecticut threshold is tops, the state with the lowest threshold to reach its 1 percent is New Mexico at $231,276. Or, Connecticut's 1 percent threshold is nearly three-times that of New Mexico.
The Connecticut figure is led by what the EPI refers to as the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk metro area where you would have to earn more than $1 million to be in the 1 percent.

While Connecticut led the nation in 1 percent threshold, it was second to New York in the difference in average earnings between the 1 percent and the 99 percent in a state, according to the report.
In New York, the average income of a 1 percenter in 2013 was $2,006,632, but the average earnings of a member of the 99 percent was $44,163. Or, New York's 1 percenters earned 45.4 times as much as its 99 percent.
Connecticut's 1 percent earned an average of $2,402,339, while the state's 99 percent earned $56,445, or 42.6 times less than the 1 percent. Wyoming was third in this category; its 1 percent on average earned $2,118,167, compared to $52,196 for that state's 99 percent, or 40.6 times less.
