As Weather Warms Up, Norwalk Police Offer Heat Safety Tips

The Norwalk Police Department has shared a few heat safety tips to help residents stay cool and safe this summer.

NORWALK, CT — In light of warm weather across Connecticut this week, the Norwalk Police Department has offered a few heat safety tips to help residents stay cool and safe this summer.

Though the first day of summer takes place in June, many consider the upcoming Memorial Day weekend to be the unofficial start of summertime.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, police shared the following safety tips:

  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, even if not thirsty. Avoid sugary drinks.
  • Stay cool. Use A/C or go to cool places. Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat.
  • Dress appropriately. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothes. Don't forget sunscreen!
  • Pace yourself. Plan outdoor work during cooler hours (morning/evening). Take frequent, shaded breaks. Drink water during rest.
  • Monitor others. Check regularly on seniors and young children. Look for heat-related illness symptoms.
