Westport Boy, 10, Dies From Injuries In Car Accident: Report
A 10-year-old boy from Westport has died from injuries sustained in a car accident in upstate New York.

WESTPORT, CT — A 10-year-old boy from Westport died Monday from injuries sustained in a car accident over the weekend in upstate New York, according to media reports. The news was shared by Westport school officials in an email to parents Tuesday.
According to the Norwalk Hour, fourth-grade student Perrin Delorey was in the backseat of a vehicle involved in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon in Sharon, N.Y. Police said he suffered serious head and internal injuries and was put on life support following the accident.
Police initially said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, however Times Union reports that "multiple sources familiar with the accident" said the boy had been wearing a seat belt that was removed by his father during efforts to revive him.

According to Westport Now, state police later issued a revised report that made no mention of whether he was wearing a seat belt. A family friend also told Westport Now that Perrin's organs are being donated so that other families will have hope for their children.
Police said the crash appeared to have occurred after the driver, 49-year-old James C. Delorey of Westport, crossed the center line while traveling eastbound and hit a car traveling westbound head-on, according to the Fairfield Daily Voice.

Police said the driver and a front-seat passenger, 47-year-old Angela H. Ryan of Westport, were transported to Albany Center Medical Hospital and were both listed in stable condition, according to the Fairifield Daily Voice.
Green Farms Elementary School hosted an open house Tuesday evening for students and parents in light of the tragic news, and the district also held a parent informational session on talking to children about loss at Long Lots Elementary School that night.
