The NPT Youth Board is a group of teens aged 13-18 that meets once every month. Members work with Kristin Huffman, a Broadway performer, University of Hartford professor and Producing Artistic Director of NPT, to learn valuable skills in board development, networking and the business of theatre. Throughout the year, members apply these skills at galas, concerts, and other NPT events. NPT Youth is a part of NPT’s Sustainable Harmony© program, an initiative that inspires local commitment, a caring and an altruistic revolution towards interdependence as social currency by way of artistic performance, collaboration, and mentorship. While there are many performing opportunities alongside the NPT Broadway, film and TV pros it is not required that the teen be a performer. They also work with other members of the adult board of directors who specialize in marketing, management, financial and other industries. This year the Youth Board will also attend leadership conventions and seminars.
Shaina Arsenault, Vice President of the youth board says, “NPT has given me the chance to be a leader in more ways than one. Serving as both Vice President of the Youth Board and the head of the marketing committee, I have had experience in leading my peers through professional-style board meetings, webinars, and conference calls. I have learned how to effectively manage people and inspire them to be productive.” Shaina was accepted at Cornell University as a Hospitality Major this year.
